Xboxmod.co.uk
Our website is the first choice for Xbox 360 modifications. It is run by the previous owner of completexbox.co.uk which modded thousands of original Xbox 1 consoles from 2002 to 2005. If any of you had your console modded by myself back then, why hello there again!!
We offer BRAND NEW pre modified Xbox 360 consoles (very limited time left on these) as well as CUSTOMER SPECIFIED new consoles, and five services that you can send your own console/DVD drive in to receive. In my experience these are the five most important modifications that can be done to the Xbox 360:
- DVD Drive firmware upgrade
- 70mm or 50mm extra fan install
- CPU and GPU Arctic Silver 5 upgrade
- X-clamp replacement
- DVD Drive replacement
You may or may not know that the 360 has been plagued with overheating issues (3RROD or 3 red rings of death) which are mainly due to bad heatsink design and poor thermal compound on Microsoft's behalf. I myself know of 8 friends that have all had a 360 3RROD, myself included, and if it's out of warranty you have yourself a nice £130 - £200 paperweight as it stands - not good. Upgrading your DVD drive's firmware allows the console to play backups of your legally owned games which obviously can be very handy as discs often get scratched or lost. However when the firmware is updated the console has to work that little bit harder to read the discs and this is where overheating issues can become more of a problem than normal.
Most other sites offer the firmware upgrade service and that's it. Sure the console will work and you may never get any problems with it. The Falcon chipset consoles were meant to have the 3RROD issue fixed by the installation of a different GPU heatsink but alas many still failed. I have seen hundreds who have not had them modified and they have 3RROD! After modding mine with the above three procedures I have been successfully running my 360 for over two years now without any problems.
The 70/50mm fan mod is installed under the top front lid of the console, just above the power button, and draws cool air into the box, over the GPU/CPU heatsinks, and then the original twin fans at the rear expel the hot air out. The newer consoles with the larger heatsinks only allow enough room for a 50mm fan install, the older ones can have a 70mm install. All brand new premods come with the 50mm fan installed. A standard 360 will just be expelling hot air from the back of the console with no fresh cool air being drawn into it. This mod makes for a much more efficient and cooler airflow through the console, and reduces stress on the motherboard when the console is turned off and on, thus expanding and contracting which is the main reason for solder points cracking and the 360 3RROD. End result looks like this, neat holes in the case to match the existing design:
The thermal compund upgrade is equally as important as the standard paste put down by Microsoft is to say the least, rubbish, and slathered on in my eyes unprofessionally and far too thickly. Arctic Silver 5 compound (or AS5 for short) is well known as one of the best thermal compounds available for heat dissipation due to the real silver contained within it. With this mod the CPU and GPU heatsinks are removed, old compund cleaned off properly, and AS5 applied onto both processors before the heatsinks are reinstalled. Yes it's a pig of a job and it does cost a bit but for peace of mind and with any luck the need to only ever have one Xbox 360, well worth it! Anyone out there that has removed the heatsink X-clamps will know what a pain it can be. Compare the original thermal compund picture with the AS5 I apply instead:

X-clamp replacement. This is heavily documented across the net and basically involves the removal of the standard clamps that hold both heatsinks in place. They are then replaced with the correct size bolts, washers and nylon washers to provide a tighter, more stable fit against the processors and motherboard.
DVD drive replacement. Is your current Xbox 360 DVD drive on it's last legs? Making a lot of noise, dirty disc read errors, gauging rings into your discs? Got a load of new wave backups that you can't play on your current drive? With this service you can have a BRAND NEW Benq DVD drive (widely regarded as the quietest and best) as a replacement for your current one.
